There are barely enough words to describe the journey God took me on to the Dominican Republic. God is crazy good in all ways.
But to summarize the novel I could probably write about my trip, I will say that if you have never experienced a different culture… go, right now. Well, God willing.
… and go to the Dominican Republic :-p
The Dominican culture is simply beautiful and beautifully simple. They live lives that are so enriched by relationship, by family, by togetherness.
The hardest part of coming back to the United States was not the poverty difference, but the lost joy we have up here.
That culture is thriving and beautiful because of what matters to them; togetherness.
Driving down the street down there, I would see groups of people hanging out outside their house, eating together, playing dominoes, laughing. They do stuff together and that is what enriches their lives.
They are living how God intended us to live; with a reliance on another.
“Let brotherly love continue.” Hebrews 13:1
God, of course, taught me numerous things on this trip and I am still learning from it. But I wanted to encourage you right now and remind you of this…
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that always prevails.” Proverbs 19:21
and if God calls you to it, He will get you through it and you will experience crazy, awesome things you could’ve never experienced elsewhere.
When God calls you to something, the whole thing is God orchestrated. He will orchestrate every event according to His will for your life. He will make your paths cross with people you would’ve never guessed you would be friends with. He will let you sing songs of praise with people who speak a different language. He will take you on an incredible journey, heart on, where He is your tour guide and your most intimate companion.
God’s will isn’t just a will; it is a journey of growth, love, joy, pain, healing, intimacy, surrender… and falling in love with the creator of our souls moment after moment.
God is totally crazy and mysterious… and violently in love with us.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8
You know who you are, you know you feel God tugging on your heart to step out in faith… go, trust in Him.
