overcoming [discouragement.]

Discouragement is a huge struggle for me and I really believe it’s been rooted so deep into my core, that it is hard to tell when I am being discouraged because I beat myself up and believe those lies.

Right now, I am feeling discouraged whether I should write this or not… and to be honest the enemy has kept me from writing a lot on here. But right now, I believe God goes before me and I pray this glorifies Him in every aspect and I pray that these words would be taken the right way and in the right context.

We let this discouragement make us believe there is something wrong with us… but NO, it is the enemy trying to tear us down from what God is doing and will do in us.

I don’t know if you have every heard someone tell you this, but the enemy is afraid of what God will do through us and in us. Now, we can’t obsess over that but we can be amazed by the power of God in us.

I believe discouragement is one of Satan’s greatest and easiest tactics to grab ahold of us with. I believe discouragement is also one of the hardest things to overcome, so I pray you do not become discouraged about being discouraged but instead be gracious with yourself, be gentle and know that every single one of your feelings matter and I pray you and God would sit down and sort through them together. I pray you would also know that this will take time.

Discouragement, when we are following God’s plan for our life, makes us begin to believe that God isn’t calling us to do something or we begin to believe it is not supposed to happen because of all the obstacles in our way.

Now, I do believe there can be a good kind of discouragement, which wouldn’t be called discouragement, to keep us from walking back into the life of our old sin- we have to seek God and have Him help us discern His voice and His leading. (this will be for another time though)

But we can begin to doubt because of our discouragement.

For me, a big doubt has been with this blog… like me believing I am not wise enough to blog about God, or I am not as good as some other teachers or bloggers.

Which leads me to thinking about our discouragement. When I get discouraged I am going to start writing out the lies I am believing and I would encourage you to do the same. Then when we look at the lies we are believing, I pray the Lord would help us realize how outrageous they are.

You believe you aren’t good enough but Jesus says, “I died on the cross for YOU and you did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit–fruit that will last–and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” [John 15:16]

You believe you’re voice isn’t worthy of being heard but God says, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you..” [Jeremiah 29:12 | Psalm 116:1 | Psalm 5:3 | Jeremiah 33:3 ]

You believe you aren’t beautiful but God says, ” You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” [Song of Solomon 4:7]

You believe you are too much or not enough but God says, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made. My works are wonderful.” [Psalm 149:14] HE JUST CALLED YOU WONDERFUL!

I pray you believe it, my friends, that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, that you are wonderful, that you are worth dying for, you are heard, your every word matters.

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Here God is telling us to take every thought and make it obedient to Him, to take every thought and lie and counteract it with the truth of the Word of God.

We need to stand up against the enemy and what he has made us believe for so many years. Some of these lies are so deep rooted that they may be painful to dig up. There may be lies you don’t even know you are believing.

We need to rise up because we are God’s disciples. Yes, we are His disciples. [John 8:31] We are now seated at the right hand of the Father !![Ephesians 2:6]

Yes, it is going to be hard, painful and require patience for God to uproot those deep lies and the wounds they have caused. But I pray you don’t give up.

Ask God to help you bring up those lies, ask Him to take you on a journey to the wounds of your heart and begin to heal them, ask Him for strength and wisdom to believe these truths about yourself, ask Him for forgiveness, ask Him for you to be able to just dwell in His house and His presence. Ask Him to help you love yourself, to help you be patient with yourself as He is patient with you, ask Him to help you show yourself grace and forgive yourself.

Ask Him to help you believe and feel His embrace.

I know discouragement can be overwhelming and you may not know where to begin. I believe prayer is vital and I would encourage you to ask others to pray over you and I would love to pray over you right now…

Father, I pray that you would bless the eyes reading this with the wisdom to know you and your truths. Thank you that you have provided every single thing in your word needed to counteract our discouragement. You knew that we would have discouragement in this world and Father you provided your word of truth. I pray that the person reading this would know they are loved with an everlasting love, I pray that they would know that they were chosen by you, that they are heard by you. I pray God that you would break through those feelings of discouragement and let your light shine through, I pray you would give them a desire to seek your word God and pour out their hearts to you. Open their eyes to the wonderful things in your law and let them find refuge in you. Cover them with your wings and help them go on a journey to find the roots of these lies and fill those cracks with your truth, grant them the grace to be patient with themselves and to only look to you in these times. Thank you for being a healing God, a God who understands what we feel and you don’t just disregard us God but you want us to pour ourselves out to you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

If you would like me to cover you in prayer more specifically, I would absolutely love to… in the menu bar there is a contact me page! đŸ™‚

and when this journey comes to an end, I'll rest in your embrace. Lord come quickly, please:
